BioThane® is the brand name of all coated webbing products made by BioThane Coated Webbing Corp. It’s basically a polyester webbing with a TPU or PVC coating that makes it more durable, waterproof, and easy to clean.

The biothane used in the Mark V is of the TPU type, a glossy coated version without the leather grain appearance typical of the PVC type. This version washes easier and stores fewer dead skin cells on its surface.

Biothane usually makes it possible to wear the Mark V continuously without skin problems. Throw away that stinky nylon collar; Biothane will not pick up any odors, nor will it encourage mold to seek a warmer, more living home.

Daily showering with the Mark V is recommended to keep the interface between the collar and the neck clean and free of the grunge in which pets are often involved. Use them hard, and put them away wet.

Traditional whip-style antennas may have a place in the field on animals without opposable thumbs, but we’ve had to develop a custom solution for human use. Something to render those pesky fingers as useless as they should be. An antenna that won’t get bent out of shape or poke someone in the eye.

Tritium. I sourced the capsules that use this stuff from an American supplier for safety, cast in borosilicate glass within a Lexan outer shell, and tipped with stainless steel for even more protection.

The best timepieces have tritium for dial markers, and the best shock collars have it on their antennas.

Tritium is a harmless alpha emitter; alpha particles can’t penetrate your skin, clothing, or even a piece of paper. Don’t swallow it, yeah? Crushing it in your mouth and inhaling the tritium gas would be on par with only a dental x-ray, but still not a good idea. They’ll glow for at least ten years, and you can see them quite well in the dark.

It’s been cast inside the antenna in durable polyurethane plastic. These are some of the brightest tritium capsules I’ve found to date. It’s the first option we’re making available for people who want to stand out from the crowd.

Stainless steels are from a set of iron-based alloys containing at least 10.5% chromium and a maximum of 1.2% carbon.

It’s the chromium that makes stainless steel corrosion-resistant. Polishing creates what is known of as the “Passive Layer.”

The passive layer is created as the chromium content in the stainless steel’s surface reacts to oxygen. The passive layer acts as a protective barrier, preventing further oxidation of the stainless steel.

In comparison, ordinary carbon steel surfaces form ferric oxide when exposed to oxygen. Ferric oxide does not form a continuous layer, so it eventually falls off, leaving raw steel exposed and prone to a destructive rusting cycle.

The passive layer of stainless steel is self-repairing. If it is damaged, chromium in the exposed stainless steel will react with oxygen to form new chromium oxide. As long as sufficient chromium is present, the chromium oxide layer will continue to reform and protect the stainless steel surface.

When measuring the nickel release from various stainless steel materials into synthetic sweat, blood and urine, scientists observed that the surface finish of the materials significantly affected the nickel release.

The more it’s been polished, the more biocompatible stainless steel is. For all skin interfaces, we put a slick machine polish on every surface to cut down on irritation, and it just looks cool.

Staying on the cutting edge of collar technology shouldn’t involve missing skin. Your pet has enough things to complain about; their gear cutting them up shouldn’t be part of it.

To help with this, every edge has been painstakingly removed, sanded, smoothed, or flame polished, including areas that aren’t sharp at the beginning but can change over time. Because of this process, not all surfaces may appear perfect; some materials may be visibly removed. Your pet will be visibly relieved.

This is where buying a collar that’s been tested for years shows its strength— it doesn’t just work, it works well.

The Mark V is waterproof to the bottom of most swimming pools. But once it’s out of the water, the race is on to drain and dry before anything can get a foothold and start to grow in the moist confines.

Moisture control is managed by intentionally putting gaps between layers to encourage rapid drying. There are four locations wearers are instructed to press a towel against after showering, and it will soak up any remaining water.

The electrical contacts create a gap between the inner collar strap and the skin. This gap is critical for comfort, as it allows the area to dry and prevents the collar strap from “sticking” and sealing it from fresh air. “Sticking” is the first step down the long road of skin irritation and eventually forced discontinuation of use.

The Mark V is incredibly easy to wear. Your pet will enjoy a full range of head movements. Nothing will get in the way of them looking down in your presence.

These have to be the gnarliest contacts you’ve ever seen. They’re huge! Did I get these from Frankenstein’s neck or something? Why so large?

Bigger is better, to a point.

Mark V contacts are handmade to exact specifications. This size is relative to the strap height. If the skin is tented at a specific angle, it fools the nerves and creates a 4th-dimensional portal, and the contact actually rests in that region.

I'm just kidding; I honestly have no idea how it works; I only know that it does work, and these contacts produce no marks, pain, or soreness. They’ve been tested on large and small necks with the same shocking results every time.

The first thing every pet always says is, “I can’t feel them.” any guess as to what they say next? :)

These four smaller contacts are not electrified. Instead, they provide a conductive path from the left to the right to bypass the windpipe or the spine, depending on how the collar is rotated.
